A love letter to SV

I've been asked many times recently about why I chose to run for school board and of one phrase stands out the most in my mind: This is my community, I love it, and I want to support it. I spent a lot of time talking to and meeting with others this spring – of all ages and backgrounds – and found many of our thoughts and hopes to be aligned. My husband and I chose to move to Saucon Valley in 2019 because of its strong reputation for excellence in education and opportunities for our family. At the time, we heard from his coworkers and their spouses share about exciting afterschool opportunities, evening art shows and book fairs, family fun nights the PTO put on that included minute to win it games with their teachers, and even something called Wednesday Envelopes. As parents of preschoolers this enticed us to not just move to Saucon Valley but also to enjoy, support, and participate in as much as we could.
In my discussions with members of our community I asked them in what ways they are engaged with our school district. Many of us have a strong belief in our educators and their ability to teach the curriculum while growing our children to be their best students and selves . I was thrilled to hear from some of our senior citizens about their opportunities to watch the amazing musicals and concerts. I enjoyed talking with families of incoming and current students about the clubs and activities that happen within our schools and community. I listened to families that chose homeschool, charter schools, or BAVTS about why these paths were the best option for their family. I reminded people about additional opportunities they weren’t aware of, like enjoying the pool at the HS during the school year evenings with a fairly priced pool membership. There are so many great educational and extracurricular opportunities here in Saucon Valley that I want to support and share about with our community. It’s time to remind our neighbors that they are a welcome part of this team. Communication is more than just talking; it’s also about listening and following through consistently.
I am running for school board because I believe in supporting Saucon grow and reach it’s potential. I believe in providing quality education to ALL students because someday they will be doctors, teachers, mechanics, engineers, chefs and more in our community. I see a need to support our professionals with the resources, tools, and respect they need to be successful. I want SVSD to be a district where families and teachers want to stay and grow. I understand the financial concerns of our community and promise to do all I can to consider and respect all funding sources. I am excited to support collaboration that engages all of our stakeholders – residents, families, students, and our professional education team. I hope you are just as excited.
Tomorrow, May 20th, vote Meghan Lomangino for Saucon Valley School Board with confidence knowing your vote counts in strengthening our school community.
